ACS To Offer Breakfast beginning 2013-2014

A new addition to our food service for the 2013-2014 school year will be a light breakfast menu. From 7:15-8:00 the cafeteria will offer items such as muffins, sausage biscuits, cold and hot cereals, fruit, milk and juice for our students, and perhaps the whole family. The goal is to provide convenience for our families and to provide a time they can have a few minutes together in the mornings. Dr. Hodges states, "We want to give our families an opportunity to come to the gym, grab some breakfast and a few minutes together before everyone begins their day. Moms and dads can have breakfast with the kids, head of to work and the kids can head off to class."

Prices and a final menu have not been decided but will be provided at orientation in August.

Miss Kaleatha Roberts, a highly qualified and experienced administrator, will assume the role of full time elementary and pre-school principal. Kally holds Bachelor's Degrees in Elementary Education and Business Administration from Tennessee Temple University. She holds multiple advanced degrees including a Masters of Education (Concentration in Curriculum and Instruction) and an Education Specialist degree (Concentration in Teaching and Learning) from Liberty University. She has more than two thirds completion of a Doctorate in Education with concentrations in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University. Kally is a native of Nassau, Bahamas but has taught both in the Bahamas and at Faith Baptist Schools in Canoga Park, California, for nine years. During her time at Faith she served as a head teacher and completed many of the administrator's duties by helping chair the upper elementary division.

Miss Roberts will bring a passion for academic excellence and an expertise in staff and curriculum development to our school. She is committed to mentoring young teachers as well as a strong commitment to active professional development. She is a high energy, tireless educator who will lead our elementary staff to settle for nothing less than excellence in educating your children. She will serve as an active member of the leadership team and provide strong guidance for our growing pre-school division, working with pre-school director, Michelle Funk. We initially contacted Kally hoping to get her here for the 2013-2014 school year but delays in getting her visa approved have delayed it by one year. From what we know about Kally Roberts, it will be worth the wait.

Dr. Hodges, who spent several years as an elementary principal, will assume leadership of the elementary division for the 2013-2014 school year, permitting Mrs. Jane LaTour to dedicate her full attention the the new EC program.

NC House Bill-269 To Make Positive Impact On Christian Schools

HB-269 TO COME UP FOR VOTE

The North Carolina legislature is preparing to consider for passage House Bill 269 - The Children with Disabilities Scholarship Grant bill. This bill, if passed, will provide additional funding for families with special needs children so that they have the option to enroll them in private and Christian schools in North Carolina that have programs to meet those needs.

This is a very vital improvement on the bill that already exists for children with special needs.

We are asking all our families, whether or not they would directly benefit from the program, to contact our state senators and representatives and urge them to support this bill with their voice and their vote. If you do not know who your senator and/or representatives are please contact the school office and we can help you with that information. Please flood our legislators' offices with calls and emails for support of HB 269, one of several pieces of legislation designed to help private and Christian schools that may come for a vote this session.

We will keep you abreast of these bills as they come to light. This is our voice so let's express it!

Reference: http://www.ncleg.net/gascripts/BillLookUp/BillLookUp.pl?Session=2013&BillID=H269

ACS Announces Formation of Youth Shooting Sports Competition Team

Alamance Christian School is please to announce the formation of a Youth Shooting Sports Competition team. This is a student/team competition in shotgun, archery, small bore rifle, and hunter skills. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has held this competition for 34 years.

After an initial response of over 50 students, the School Board of Alamance Christian School decided to offer this competitive outlet to its students. The first step in developing the team will be to have approximately 7 to 10 adults go through a workshop that will enable the adults to become certified as Hunter Education instructors. Once this step is completed the school will provide a Hunter Education course at the school. The workshop is being held this spring, and the Hunter Education course will be offered Fall of 2013 at the school.

Young people that successfully complete their Hunter Education coursework and are in grades 9 through 12 will be able to compete in the SENIOR category competitions that are held at the District level. The top three placing teams from each district will then advance to a State level competition. A maximum of 54 teams can compete at the state level. Teams consist of 5 members for each event in the competition; as many as 20 young people can be on any one team.

Alamance Christian School decided to offer this opportunity to our students because there is an active shooting sports culture at ACS. The program is well run and the guidelines are very clear and specific as they pertain to competition requirements and proper shooting safety etiquette.

Ken Delorge, Principal at ACS, is the school contact person. He can be reached at 336.578.0318.
