Lunchroom

What are your lunchroom facilities like? We have a full scale kitchen that is fully equipped to prepare and serve meals to the children. It is inspected quarterly by the health department.

What types of lunches are served? The students are fed a variety of items such as chicken pie, chicken fingers, fries, hot dogs, pizza and baked potatoes. Salad and green beans are available every day. Parents are given a menu every month to keep them informed.

Do I need to send money every day for lunch? No. You can purchase a voucher and have your child charge their lunch against the voucher. You can view how much is left on the voucher on InfoDirect.

Communication

How does the school communicate with the parents? We have several ways to inform parents. The teachers in elementary send home weekly letters in the child’s folder. The office often sends information through the Communication Envelope for high school students. We also have an online communication program, InfoDirect, for every family where the parents can view their financial account, their child’s grades, their homework, sports schedules, and other vital information.

What is the best way to contact a teacher? InfoDirect email is a good initial contact. If you need to discuss a matter in more detail, you can set up a time to have a face to face meeting.

Technology

What is the student/computer ratio? We have a student available computer for every four students in grades 7 -12.

Do elementary students get to use the computers? Students in grades 4-6 have a computer class once every week.

What programs do students learn on the computer? We teach the Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Some advanced students will learn Publisher, Access, Outlook, and even yearbook software.

At what grade levels do high school students take computer? We have two courses – one in 8th grade and one in 11th grade. All high school students have access and can use the computers for their projects.

Finances

Does the school provide any scholarships to attend? Yes, there is a limited amount of money set aside to help needy families. The school office can provide details about the application process upon your request.

Where does the school receive its funding? ACS does not receive funding from government sources. Over 90% of the operational expenses come from tuition and fees. We receive a very limited amount of donations from churches and individuals.

Spiritual

What things do you provide to meet the spiritual needs of the students? First of all we recognize that we can provide the right atmosphere and give the proper instruction in righteousness, but God is the one who changes the heart. The Word of God is integrated into every subject; we teach Bible as a course and the Word is preached in chapel. At different times of the year we hold special chapels for a spiritual emphasis week. We also use the Word when we have opportunity to counsel one on one with the students. God has promised to use His Word in hearts, therefore, we want to use as many vehicles as we can to expose our students to the truth of God’s Word.

Dress Code and Discipline

What part does dress code, and the discipline system play in making my child a success?   The dress code is here to foster an academic and moral atmosphere. We want our students to develop an edge by learning to “dress-up” rather than “dress down”. It is true that the way a person dresses affects their attitude and actions. We want our students to be able to focus on their academics and not be sidetracked by impure thoughts brought on by suggestive and provocative worldly styles of clothing. Of course this only deals with the outward but we have a responsibility to provide the proper atmosphere where everyone can learn. The discipline system provides a sense of order. Students cannot learn unless you can get their attention first. Orderly classrooms provide the right atmosphere in which to learn.
