Resume Do's and Don'ts
DO’S
- Be concise – a resume is be an outline of your educational and professional qualifications
- Create a resume that fits the job you’re after – always make sure that your resume is functional and applicable
- Carefully proofread and edit your resume – read your resume at least two times and look for mistakes, then let a friend look it over
- Make the effort and investment to produce a quality finished product
- Keep your resume up-to-date
DON’TS
- Don’t be cute or fancy when it comes to layout and presentation – your resume is the first impression that you will make with a prospective employer
- Don’t use passive phrases such as “Was responsible for” or “Duties included”
- Don’t exaggerate
- Don’t overlook non-work experiences such as charity work or a cultural organization you are a part of
- Don’t include frivolous information such as salary requirements or marital status
- Don’t label the document “Resume”
