Reflecting the Creator’s Hand

“Art at Alamance Christian School is more than mastering techniques or elements or principles for academic exercise.

We use art to train the eyes to see God’s world through direct observation and equip the mind to respond. We teach students to use the visual arts as a communication platform to point others to the Creator for His glory.”

Mrs. Cheek, Arts Faculty

The Vision for Visual Arts

At ACS, we teach students that as God’s image-bearers, we are uniquely made to create. We view these visual creations as a profound form of worship, healing, and exploration. By moving students from curiosity to mastery, we equip them with the technical skill sets, professional tools, and diverse materials needed to articulate their faith through art.

A World Transformed through Creativity

Our curriculum challenges students to think critically about the culture they consume and the beauty they produce.

  • The Foundation: Our Elementary studio focuses on fine motor skill development and foundational vocabulary. Every lesson is Scripturally based, teaching students to use a myriad of materials to reflect the Creator.
  • The Development: Middle and High School students transition to advanced media and complex projects, including print-making, plaster casting, mixed media, oil painting, and collaborative installations.

In the ACS studio, we provide a culture of safety, belonging, and creative ownership. The true measure of this visual arts focus is found not in completed projects, but in artistic creativity that reflects the glory of God leading to a World Transformed for Christ.

Listen to an ACS graduate whose passion for the arts was ignited and fed here at the school. She continues to use those art skills by painting (oils, watercolors, and acrylics) as well as within her interior design business.

Each year, our 3rd–12th grade students represent ACS in the North Carolina Christian School Association (NCCSA) state competitions. These opportunities teach our students that art has a vital place in the world beyond the classroom.  The images below are but a sample of the fantastic work by our students!

By acquiring technical expertise and understanding art history through a Biblical worldview, our graduates enter the world ready to create work that is technically superior and spiritually significant.
