Our Athletic Culture
The “Warrior Way” is more than just an opinion or a philosophy — it is culture. As a definition, when we say culture we mean “a team’s way of thinking, behaving, and working that is accepted as the standard.” A well-designed and maintained culture does not just exist because it must be constantly reinforced.
The Warrior Way is a culture of doing the best you can in everything you do for the honor and glory of God. It means that you do the right thing at the right time for the right reason — the betterment of those around us. Followers of the Warrior Way:
- Do not give in when things seem too tough.
- Do not seek glory for themselves or make excuses.
- Persevere to the end and put their teammates ahead of themselves.
- Accept responsibility for their actions.

A Shared Philosophy
The Warrior culture is one that is developed by coaches, taught (and implemented) by current players, and supported by alumni. As John C. Maxwell said, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” Coaches, as leaders, have a primary job to teach, mentor, and build athletes who become God-honoring men and women.
- Teach: We commit to giving every player the tools they need to be successful and prepared for any challenge.
- Mentor: Success is measured by growth, not just wins and losses. We mentor through biblical principles, team devotions, and by setting a "Warrior Way" example.
- Results: We push players to the limits of their comfort zones to help them reach their God-given potential. Our goal is to set the tone in practice so that the competition seems easy.
As current players, you have the privilege and opportunity to be part of a shared culture built upon historical tradition and continued success. Playing under this structure is not a right, but a privilege that must be earned in practices, workouts, games, and classes.
For this culture to be successful years in the future, it must have the support of alumni. These athletes helped make the culture what it is today. They also have an added responsibility to give back to programs through attendance, financial support, and holding current athletes accountable to the Warrior Way.
The Warrior Way is our Standard
To be consistent and successful, we must hold players and coaches to the highest standard both on and off the field.
- Mental and Physical Toughness: We expect our players to be the toughest competitors—mentally and physically. We do not accept being "mentally soft" in the face of adversity, as that is a selfish reaction that prioritizes the individual over the team.
- Unselfishness: We value athletes who sacrifice for the team rather than those concerned with individual stats and attention. We win and lose as a team.
- Uniformity: We do not wear anything that sets us apart from the team, such as specialized headbands or wristbands. We always look and act like a team.
- Respect: We honor Christ by our actions. We never react disrespectfully toward opposing players, fans, or officials, and we commit to helping our teammates and opponents alike.
- Preparation: student-athletes understand and live the fact that an “off season” is not real. How you perform in the moment is determined by how you prepare for months.
- Academic Leadership: We expect our players to be leaders in the classroom by doing their absolute best academically and positively influencing others to do the same.
- Servanthood: Players should be the best servants in the school, looking for opportunities to serve those around them just as Christ did for us.
- Application: Lessons learned in practices and in games are used in everyday life.
In the end, the Warrior Way is more than a slogan. It is a lifestyle anchored in Jesus Christ and built upon Biblical principles. It is a commitment to God and man to remain steadfast in doing what is right in God’s eyes to glorify Him.
In closing, the Warrior Way is the heartbeat of our trusted athletic tradition. Since our founding, we have maintained a commitment that true excellence is anchored in Jesus Christ.
